John is responsible for overseeing five of JLL’s business lines in the United States.
John’s career in commercial real estate spans almost three decades. After earning a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin, he joined the Staubach Company in 1990. There, he became a top Dallas broker, before rising to several leadership positions, including President and Chief Operating Officer.
John came to JLL during the acquisition of Staubach in 2008. In the decade since, he has held numerous senior leadership roles at JLL.
John stepped into the role of CEO of Markets for the Americas in 2014. Based in Dallas, Texas, he leads the Brokerage, Capital Markets, Project and Development Services, Property Management, and Retail businesses in the U.S. With his leadership team, John sets the vision and strategy for JLL Markets, with a focus on how to innovate to meet clients’ needs.
John is deeply involved in Dallas civic life. In 2009, the Mayor of Dallas appointed him to the Dallas Housing Authority’s board, where he served until July 2014. He currently serves on the Dallas Citizens Council.
His wife of more than 30 years, Jennifer Staubach Gates, is serving her third term as Dallas City Council’s District 13 representative. They have two daughters and two grandsons.
In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, and hunting. In addition to his many civic commitments, he is a member of the Executive Council for the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center at the University of Texas at Austin and is very active in the Dallas Catholic community.
